Local Bonairean Finds New Home with TWR

Introducing Our Newest Tower Rigger Jonathan Trenidad

Growing up in the village of Rincon, Jonathan Trenidad always dreamed of going to the United States.  He finally got that chance in 2014, when his mother recommended that he study computer network security at a community college in Iowa, USA.

“I didn’t want to go to school here because we don’t have a lot of options.  So my mom asked me where I wanted to go and she found an option for me that she knew I would like.”
After studying, he returned home to Bonaire and accepted a job with the police department.  He attended the police academy in Curacao and then served the department for some years before he decided he wanted to change careers.

“Being a police officer was stressful and there were many risks.”

He contacted TWR in the hope that he may find a new job.  After a few months, TWR’s Technical Director, Jonas Fischer, contacted Jonathan and told him he could join the team on a short-term contract as a tower rigger.

“The first time I climbed the tower, I was scared.  It was so high and windy as the rope was pulling me up.   The rope can hold up to 3 tons, but it was still scary for me!”

Since joining the TWR family in November, Jonathan has climbed the tower several times and no longer feels afraid.

“Yesterday, I went all the way up and it was very nice!”

Jonas Fischer has certainly noticed Jonathan’s progress on the job and growth in his faith.

“He’s been a good worker for us.  You can tell when people work with a passion.  They do their job differently,” says Jonas.

Jonathan says he loves being a part of a large organization and he feels like he’s part of a large Christian family with TWR.

“It’s different.  We pray in the morning and it makes my day go so much better.  Everyone is so nice.  There are three of us who mainly work on the tower – Luis, Lionel, and me.  We have a bond that’s so good.  We take care of each other.  Jonas has been to my home and we had a lot of fun.  We’re all family.”

Jonathan says he no longer wants to leave the island.

“I found my home here with TWR.  Now my dream is to get a house here.”
